Indoor Plants Inspire Feng Shui
As a professional Interior Designer in Bergen County, New Jersey, I am a big proponent of using indoor plants in the home. We haven’t discussed the positioning of plants to get positive results.
This placement idea come to us from the practice of Feng Shui. It is one of the oldest know Chinese texts. The Feng Shui charts balance energy (chi) via scientific calculations. Inviting in positive chi to your home is the goal. You will feel energized and balanced.
#1. WHAT PLANTS SHOULD I GET AND WHERE WHOULD I PUT THEM?
A very important place to position a plant is within 3 feet of the computer. This helps filter the electromagnetic energy coming from the device. Plants radiate harmonious energy.
Aloe vera combats bad luck and negative energy. It cleans the air. It reduces toxic chemicals.
Jasmine strengthens relationships and builds romance. The scent soothes stress. It should be kept near a south facing window. You might want to place it in a bedroom.
Lucky bamboo brings peace and wise energy into the home. It is easy to grow and doesn’t need lots of sunlight.
#2. WHAT EFFECTS DO PLANTS HAVE?
Plants soften the hard angles in a home. They inspire your connection with nature where there are curves and softness.
Here’s a tip:
Don’t add cacti or thorn-covered plants to your home. Theya re too spikey and are not good for the chi.
You can use these plants:
Philodendron. These plants have heart shaped leaves and work well in a colder space.
Calatheas is very decorative and also purifies the air.
Jade is known as the money tree in Feng Shui. Its leaves symbolize good fortune which could be money, good health, or fame. It boosts your financial vibes.
#3. HOW DO PLANTS CHANGE THE ARCHITECTURE?
If you place tall plants in a corner of a room that has sloped to a low ceiling, you can offset the heaviness of the space.
Three plants work well for this…the ficus tree, a rubber plant tree and banana leaf plants. These all become large as they grow, making spaces feel taller.
Don’t think you are a person with a green thumb? Then the perfect plant for you is the air plant…no dirt and only a drop of water needed.
