LIFE CAN BE SIMPLE IF YOU ORGANIZE

LIFE CAN BE SIMPLE IF YOU ORGANIZE

As a professional interior designer in Bergen County, NJ, I find myself in a never to be believed circumstance. I write this while most of us are still on lock down and thinking about what we can do.  I hope fervently that by the time this is published, we will be seeing the curve diminish. Since we are still staying in, this will come at just the right time for you!

Cluttered spaces can cause you unnecessary stress.  Have you ever run around looking for your phone/keys/wallet right before you must leave for an appointment?  It happens to all of us!

How about when you are looking for that special pot or pan you need to make a certain recipe, hoping you did not throw it out the last time you de-cluttered!

With a few tips and tools, you too can get organized.

#1.  WHAT ARE SOME SIMPLE ORGANIZING RULES TO KEEP IN MIND?

Group like items together.

For example:

Keep all spices stored in the same area.  All wooden spoons should go into the same ceramic crock.

Sort items by frequency of use.

Looking for something?  Keep a battery powered light in a dim closet or cabinet to help you find what you need.

Use see-through bins.

Declutter yearly!  It won’t build up that way.  It does seem to get away from us!

Use dividers in drawers for separating items that go together.

Use a lazy susan to organize in multi-tier turntables to make the best use of space.  Mugs and glasses are great to store on them.

Stacking shelves also maximize space and do double duty.

Pay attention to shelf life dates and toss out old, expired items.  Have you ever looked at the dates of the over the counter meds in your medicine cabinet or on the door of the frig?  1997???  Just kidding but 2015 is not impossible!

#2.  WHY IS IT SO IMPORTANT TO GET ORGANIZED?

Making new habits of organization is not quick or easy, but, if we are consistent and make small changes each day, we will end up with BIG results.

A neat home gives you more balance in your life.

–it clears your mind.

–it saves you time.

–you will get more creative.

–it is contagious, in a good way!

Your friends and family members will admire what you have done and will ask you to help them too!  Maybe they will just do it themselves!

#3.  WHERE DO I START?

Anywhere.  It’s like a chain reaction.  Dominos.  You’ll feel great and be proud of your efforts.  It’s liberating.  Even one drawer is an accomplishment.  It will lead to others until the whole room is done.  Even the hall closet!

Which room is your worst nightmare?

During this time of distancing, we here at Lifestyle Interior Designs are still conducting business just virtually!

Give us a call to discuss what you would like to consider for now and in the future when we get back to our lives.  It is great that we have the technology to continue to help our clients.

Be well and stay safe!
