Remodeling a Kitchen: A Case Study–Part Two

Remodeling a Kitchen: A Case Study—Part Two

Hi! Here we are again at Part Two of this kitchen renovation.  As a professional interior designer in Bergen County, NJ, I spent some time with my clients discussing the requirements for this new kitchen before I did the space planning.

In consultation with the contractor we found out a few things. The soffit was empty!  We could extend the wall cabinets to the ceiling for more vertical storage for items needed but not too often.  We discovered that we could bring a gas line over to the stove area and decided the cost was worth it.  We lifted a piece of the flooring and discovered that there was a wood floor underneath it all!

To the drawing board to create the plan for the new kitchen!

We made all the selections for the kitchen and began to accumulate the necessary materials for the transformation before we started on the demolition.  We planned out how the clients were going to live without the main kitchen for several weeks.   From that point on, the clients were only able to use some appliances we located to the garage and some important items were transferred there.  It’s disposable plates time!  Or, eating out is a good way to test restaurants you always wanted to go to!

Here are some pictures of this time period:

Demolition: making way for the new plumbing and gas line.

Old wood was too damaged. New wood floors will match the dining room next door. We will stain them to match and cover it all up to protect it going forward.

This brings us to cabinet installation!  Join us for the next installation of our Case Study coming next Wednesday!
