What are the 3 Requests Most Asked for in Bathroom Remodeling?

As a professional Interior Designer in Bergen County, New Jersey, I do lots of bathroom remodeling.  I have recently completed several new bathroom renovations in Englewood and Englewood Cliffs, New Jersey, which is why there were no blog posts for a while.  Now that I am back to blogging again, I look forward to sharing with you what I have discovered.’

Here are the top 3 wishes my clients have recently requested:

1.   I want a neutral color scheme.

Most people have lots of stresses all day.  All they want when they come home is a place where they can decompress in a tranquil, spa-like setting to renew themselves.

The master bathroom is the focus of that desire.  When they renovate, they are interested in a neutral palette that enhances their health and well-being.

Warm creams…soft greys…coastal blues…gentle greens–these colors are soothing and promote a sense of calm and relaxation.

Using organic products with earth tones and textures leading the way is a big trend right now.  Incorporating wood, rough cut stone or glass and natural materials adds to the expression of serenity and peacefulness.

Wood accents and a green glass focal wall give this bathroom its organic feel.

2.  I want a bigger, better bathroom.

Some people need their tub.  Others need their shower.  Regardless, the dimensions of the bathroom continue to grow in size.  If the floor plan doesn’t lend itself to a larger space, a skilled interior designer can make magic so the existing space will look larger!  Today the tub is sometimes given up to the space can be utilized by a shower with the works.  Or not.

Clients have asked for both a rain head shower head and also a traditional shower head.  The latest “gadget” allows you to have your music playlist in the shower head!  With an emphasis on wellness, Aroma therapy and/or Chroma therapy (colored lights) can be added to enhance the experience.  Body sprays have been around for a while but are wonderful especially in a two person shower.  A seat is a great asset if you are putting steam in the shower.  Along with the seat are hand held shower heads that are great for those times when you don’t want to wash your hair!

Free standing tubs are very popular and a new idea is to put them and the shower behind  glass to create an “All Wet Area”…splash all you like!

Many of the above items are now on the “must have” list.  There is so much that can be done.

3.  I want my bathroom to be beautiful as well as functional.

All new bathrooms are a lasting investment.  People are looking toward the future and are incorporating more technology in the bathroom that helps them function better.

Clean and simple lines are important for a spacious look.  Some vanities are designed to float with concealed under-cabinet lights that increases the feeling of openness.

Zero-threshold showers with linear drains are a way to walk right into the shower with no curbs to step over.  It is taken for granted today but in the future it will be one of the things that let you live in place later on.  In planning for the future, include grab bars and a seat for greater independence now and later.

How can you shave or put on makeup while you watch the morning news?  Technology and lighting team up to give each sink a mirror that has great lighting and a TV in it!  With multiple types of lighting, you can create the mood you feel like:  bright and cheerful or soft and romantic.

There are so many choices.  When you finally decide to make a change, working with an interior design professional gets the best results.

Why dream about it when you can actually get what you want?
