WHAT ARE THE TOP 5 ITEMS PEOPLE WILL PURCHASE IN 2020?
As a professional interior designer in Bergen County, NJ, I keep my eye on the polls. These are the surveys taken often by independent organizations to see what homeowners want and predict what they will do.
This information is very helpful for projecting what manufacturers need to come up with each year.
The last study of 1,000 homeowners showed some interesting results.
These are the top 5 things homeowners are likely to buy this year.
1. REFRIGERATOR.
This number went up 22 percent over last year. Maybe everyone’s refrigerators are going to conk out this year? Well, if they do, here’s some advice.
If you are planning to buy a new refrigerator this year, there are lots of great features to help you live better and easier.
There are the models with French doors. Make sure your location has the space for the doors to really swing wide so you can open the drawers to pull them out fully.
Technology has come to the refrigerator. You can have an app on your phone that looks to see what you are low on, what you need to order, makes the order and has it delivered to your home!
Millennials and Gen-Xers are more likely to buy this than their older counterparts. You can leave messages for family members and even see the weather report on your frig.
2. LIGHTING.
Seventeen percent said they wanted to get more lighting and replace old fixtures. With the advance in LED lights, we have the luxury of not having to change a bulb for some time. Now is a great time to purchase and upgrade.
3. COUNTERTOPS.
This is one of the best ways to upgrade your kitchen or bathroom. A new countertop will not break the bank and is a great investment in those spaces to spruce them up. Sixteen percent agreed.
Granite is still number one.
Quartz is following right behind.
4. DISHWASHER.
A quiet dishwasher is really a blessing. Fifteen percent said they needed to upgrade and get a new dishwasher this year.
There are lots of great models to choose from. I personally like the double drawers. Especially for the empty nesters out there. No bending. Easy wash, easy put away.
5. FAUCET.
Only 14 percent said they wanted to purchase a new faucet this year. There are new and interesting finishes in 2020 that give a different look to the polished or brushed look of yesterday. Make sure you have the clearance space above the sink if you want one of those tall units.
Sensor faucets are great for hands free usage. No more messed up faucets from dirty hands while you are cooking!
