THE PASSOVER AND EASTER CONNECTION

As a professional interior designer in Bergen County, NJ, I often work with my clients to get ready for major holidays. This time of the year, Passover goes first, rapidly followed by Easter a few days later. They arrive together every spring, just like the daffodils and magnolia blossoms.

This year, Easter Sunday falls as the 8-day Passover holiday festival nears its end.

These holidays have a lot in common. It is all about the power of death and the greater power of life. For both holidays, we celebrate a message of hope and love.

Passover’s hard boiled egg eaten at the Sedar and Easter’s decorated eggs in the baskets are a melding of traditions. Both emphasize the continuity of life and fertility. It is a time for greenery and soft colors that remind us of springtime flowers yet to bloom.

Every family has their traditional items they take out for this holiday. Passover requires different dishes, silverware, glasses and cookware. Special items like kiddish cups and sedar plates add to the festivities.

Easter conjures up images of easter bunnies, jelly beans (my favorites) and spring colors and flowers.

Don’t have a family tradition? Now’s a great time to start one!
